An ancestor of one of the current Carterton SCD Club’s members was married by the Reverend John Macfarlane. His name was John Stratford and he married Ann Hodnett on 22 March 1840. John’s occupation was given as gamekeeper on the emigration register for the ship “Cuba”, but the Rev John Macfarlane’s notebook records his occupation as pipe maker.
